Court Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Murphy jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail and prohibited her from having contact with children should she be released.
Murphy was arrested at her home outside Puyallup after she called 911 to report shed committed a crime against her daughter, court records show. The girls father took the phone and told dispatchers Murphy told him shed intentionally dropped their daughter on the floor, court records show. The father examined the infant and found blood inside her mouth, the records state. He also told deputies Murphy threatened to commit suicide about a month ago.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she initially was diagnosed with an injured tongue. Doctors were conducting further tests, prosecutors said.
Murphy later told deputies she thought the infant was trying to kill her, so she threw the child to the floor.
The defendant said she was having her first exorcism, prosecutors wrote in charging papers. She admitted she threw (the girl) on the ground because she thought she was traveling to another dimension and the defendant was trying to save her.
