Corruption Among Leaders Embarrassing Nigerians

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, has said corruption among Nigerian leaders has become a source of embarrassment to Nigerians living outside the country.
Ajakaye said this in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday at a special thanksgiving service to mark the 50th birthday of the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, which was held at the Government House Chapel.
He said, “The bad image Nigeria is having in the international community is caused by the activities of corrupt Nigerian leaders and the involvement of some Nigerians in criminal activities. Nigeria is seen as bad because we make it to look so.”
The cleric urged those in power to be serious about the war against corruption, saying this would tarnish the
image of the country and ensure that Nigerians were not treated with respect outside the shores of the country.
The bishop lauded the governor and his wife for the role their played in the struggle for the actualisation of June 12, 1993 presidential election, believed to have been won by the late Chief M.K.O Abiola.
He said, “June, 12, 1993 was a dark time in the history of this nation. After the annulment of the election, Dr. and Mrs. Fayemi were seen protesting on the streets of London. This showed how far a child of God could go to ensure justice.”
